USA SOFTBALL TOP 25
Heading into post-season play, Florida is No.1
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – In the final regular-season ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll of the 2009 season, Florida (55-3) stays where it has the majority of the season at No.1, as announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA). Florida captured the SEC Conference Tournament title with an 8-5 win over No. 3 Alabama in the title game to secure a No.1 spot in the Poll as well as a No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament Bracket.
The Top Ten remain the same with No. 11 Missouri (45-9) making the biggest jump, three spots, after capturing the Big 12 Championship title with a 5-0 win over No.9 Oklahoma (40-14). No.14 Georgia Tech (43-13) also took away their ACC Conference Championship, defeating then-No.22 Florida State, 3-1, in the final game. Big East Conference Champions Notre Dame (41-15) received votes, falling just one spot short of the Top 25, after No.19 DePaul (37-12), 1-0.
Post-season play begins this weekend at 16 Regional sites with Super Regionals scheduled May 21-24. The final eight teams compete at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., May28-June 10, to determine who is the 2009 Softball National Champion.
The top three finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year will be announced May 20th with the winner announced before the start of the WCWS.
The final ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll will be released June 9 after the conclusion of the NCAA WCWS.
