Florida’s Bruder Named USA Softball Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) is pleased to announce that Florida’s Kelsey Bruder (Corona, Calif.) has been named the USA Softball Player of the Week for the Week of May 4-10. Bruder helped lead the Florida Gators to an SEC Tournament title, hitting .571 while being named to the SEC All-Tournament Team.

The sophomore utility player hit .571 with four hits, four runs scored, two doubles, a home run and five RBI. She registered nine total bases for a 1.286 slugging percentage. She walked twice and tallied a .700 on-base percentage to help the Florida Gators go 3-0 in the tournament.

"It's an honor to win this award when there are so many great players out there.  It was amazing to win the SEC Tournament for the second time and I am really looking forward to the NCAA Tournament, especially because we get to play the first round in front of our fans!,” said Bruder, who is receiving this award for the first time in her career.

Bruder was key in the three wins as she scored the winning run in the win over then No-16 Tennessee to advance to the Championship Game. She went 2-for-2 in the Tennessee game with a home run, one of three in a row, and a double. Against No.3 Alabama in the Championship Game, she went 2-for-3 with a double and single and two RBI.

"Kelsey did an outstanding job for us in the SEC Tournament,” said Florida Head Coach Tim Walton. “It was great to win a second championship and her play is a big part of that. We definitely look forward to her contributions in the post-season. She has really had an All-American year on the field and at the plate."
